Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
