And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 With it came down the spirit of Faith and Truth- 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 Without doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so We have caused it to enter into the hearts of the sinners, 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 But when it comes upon them suddenly, taking them unawares, 202 Then will they say: "Can we be given respite?" 203 Seek haste then they with our torment? 204 Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 of what avail will be the provisions of life which they have been granted to enjoy? 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 For reminder, for We never were oppressors. 209 It was not the satans who brought it down: 210 It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it). 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 And rely upon (Allah) the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray) 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 Shall I declare unto you upon whom the satans descend! 221 They descend upon every sinful liar. 222 who readily lend ear [to every falsehood,] and most of whom lie to others as well. 223 Poets are followed by the perverse. 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
