۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
