The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 by the House inhabited 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
