Nay, by the Moon 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till death overtook us. 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
