The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
