The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who belied and turned away, 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
