The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 And when souls are united, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 and when Heaven is laid bare; 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 (Then) every soul will know what it had prepared (for itself). 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 Where then will you go? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 but you shall not, unless Allah wills, the Lord of all the Worlds. 29
