Stories (Al-Qasas)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
TaSeenMeem. 1 These are the verses of the clear Book. 2 We narrate unto thee (somewhat) of the story of Moses and Pharaoh with truth, for folk who believe. 3 Verily Fir'awn exalted himself in the earth and made the people thereof into sects, weakening a party among them, slaying their sons and letting their women live. Verily he was of the corrupters. 4 We wanted to bestow favour on those who were oppressed in the land. We wanted to make them leaders and heirs 5 And to give them control in the land, and to show Firaun and Haman and their armies what they fear from them. 6 And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers." 7 Then Pharaoh's household picked him up -- later to become for them an enemy and a source of grief for them: Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts were wrongdoers -- 8 The wife of Pharaoh said: "Here is a delight of the eye to me and to you. Do not kill him. Maybe he will prove useful for us, or we may adopt him as a son." They were unaware of the end of it all. 9 On the other hand, the heart of Moses' mother was sorely distressed. Had We not strengthened her heart that she might have full faith (in Our promise), she would have disclosed the secret. 10 And she said to his [Musa's (Moses)] sister: "Follow him." So she (his sister) watched him from a far place secretly, while they perceived not. 11 ۞ And We had aforetime forbidden foster-mothers for him; so she said: shall I direct you unto a household who will rear him for you and who will be unto him good counsellors? 12 So We returned him to his mother in order to soothe her eyes and not grieve, and to know that Allah’s promise is true – but most people do not know. 13
