The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the heaven and the night-comer 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 The piercing star! 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He is created from a gushing fluid 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 when he will be helpless, with no supporter. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 And [by] the earth which cracks open, 12 Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement, 13 It is not a thing for amusement. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 But I too am devising a plan. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
