Indeed We created man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud. 26 and the jinn created We before of fire flaming. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
