And a sign to them is the dead earth: We give life to it and bring forth from it grain so they eat of it. 33 We made in it gardens of date-palms and vines, and We caused springs to gush forth 34 so that they might eat of its fruit and the labor of their hands. Will they not give thanks? 35 Hallowed be He who hath created all the pairs of that which the earth groweth, and of themselves and of that which they know not! 36 And a sign for them is the night; We strip the day out of it, thereupon they are in darkness. 37 And the sun runs his course for a period determined for him: that is the decree of (Him), the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing. 38 And the Moon,- We have measured for her mansions (to traverse) till she returns like the old (and withered) lower part of a date-stalk. 39 It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law). 40 And a sign for them is that We lodged them in a laden ship, while they were in their forefathers backs. 41 And We made similar vessels for them to ride. 42 And if We please, We can drown them, then there shall be no succorer for them, nor shall they be rescued 43 Unless by mercy from Us, and as a comfort for a while. 44 When they are told, "Fear ye that which is before you and that which will be after you, in order that ye may receive Mercy," (they turn back). 45 And whenever a sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord, they always turn away from it! 46 When they are told to spend for the cause of God out of what He has provided for them for their sustenance, the disbelievers say to the believers, "Should we feed those whom God has decided to feed? You are in plain error." 47 And they say: "When will this promise (i.e. Resurrection) be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" 48 They await but one Shout, which will surprise them while they are disputing. 49 and so [sudden will be their end that] no testament will they be able to make, - nor to their own people will they return! 50
