And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 we are the rangers, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 They used to say: 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
