The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
