Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
