The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
Almighty God's Truth.

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
