The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ They ask you about the windfalls. Say: The windfalls are for Allah and the Apostle. So be careful of (your duty to) Allah and set aright matters of your difference, and obey Allah and His Apostle if you are believers. 1 For, Believers are those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a tremor in their hearts, and when they hear His signs rehearsed, find their faith strengthened, and put (all) their trust in their Lord; 2 Those who keep up prayer and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them. 3 It is they who are the believers in truth. For them are grades of dignity with their Lord, and Forgiveness and a generous provision (Paradise). 4 Even as thy Lord caused thee (Muhammad) to go forth from thy home with the Truth, and lo! a party of the believers were averse (to it). 5 Disputing with you regarding the truth after it had been made clear, as if they were being herded towards a visible death. 6 And when Allah promised you one of the two parties that it shall be yours and you loved that the one not armed should he yours and Allah desired to manifest the truth of what was true by His words and to cut off the root of the unbelievers. 7 That He might justify Truth and prove Falsehood false, distasteful though it be to those in guilt. 8 When you were calling upon your Lord for succour, and He answered you, 'I shall reinforce you with a thousand angels riding behind you.' 9 God only did this to give you good news, and so that your hearts might be set at rest, for help comes from God alone. Surely, God is Mighty and Wise. 10
