A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 “We have been penalised; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
