Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
