The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Meem. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 Have they never thought to themselves that Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between except with truth, and for a stated term? Yet most people disbelieve that they will ever meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the earth that they may observe what was the end of their predecessors who were far mightier and tilled the land and built upon it more than these have ever built? And Allah's Messengers came to them with Clear Signs. It was not Allah Who wronged them, but it is they who wronged themselves. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them. 10
