Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
