The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
