The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
