The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By heaven and the night-star! 1 And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is? 2 It is the piercing star - 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He is created from a gushing fluid 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 He certainly has the power to bring him back to life. 8 On the day when all secrets will be made public, 9 (Man) will have no power, and no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 this (Qur'an) is surely a decisive Word, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 They are planning a scheme, 15 but I too plan against them. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
