Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
