Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
