He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
