The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
