The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 We have indeed shown him the way whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
