Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
