The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 Pollution shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
