He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
