Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
