The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
