The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
