He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
