The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
