The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
