The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
