The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
