He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
