Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 And then they cast lots and he was the one who lost, 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 We glorify God." 166 They used to say: 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
