Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; 3 It is in the Origin of the Book with Us, sublime and wise. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 But how many were the prophets We sent amongst the peoples of old? 6 But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him. 7 so We destroyed men stronger in valour than they, and the example of the ancients passed away. 8 And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; 9 Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and placed roads for you therein, that haply ye may find your way; 10 And He it is who sends down, again and again, waters from the sky in due measure: and [as] We raise therewith dead land to life, even thus will you be brought forth [from the dead]. 11 He Who created these pairs, all of them, and provided you ships and cattle on which you ride, 12 In order that you may mount firmly on their backs, and then may remember the Favour of your Lord when you mount thereon, and say: "Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts)." 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 And they allot to Him a portion of His bondmen! Lo! man is verily a mere ingrate. 15
