Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
