Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
