The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 They said: 'Are we to follow a mortal who is one of us? Then indeed, we would surely be in error and insane. 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 [And God said:] "On the morrow they will come to know who the boastful liar is! 26 Verily We are sending the she-camel as a test for them, so watch them thou and have patience. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault but they disputed the warnings. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 In the morning early there came upon them a settled chastisement: 38 We said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 39 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 40
