Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My servants. 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
