۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
