A multitude of those of old 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
