The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
